Greg R.Notess, Key Note Speaker
Greg R. Notess, author of Teaching Web Search Skills: Techniques and Strategies of Top Trainers, is reference team leader and professor at Montana State University in Bozeman. He has been writing and speaking on Internet topics since 1991. A three-time Information Authorship award winner , he is the "On the Net: and "Internet Search Enginge Update" columnist for ONLINE and the author of several books. An internationally-known conference speaker, Greg has presented at Internet Librarian, Web Search University, Canadian Health Libraries Association Conference and other international meedint in Paris, Oslo, Stockholm, Pretoria, Montreal, copenhagen, Tel Aviv, Sydney, Zagreb, and several location in India. Dr. Michael Spence, former Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Public Health Laboratory for the Montana
Department of Public Health and Human Services.
Mike Spence is Board Certified in both Obstetrics & Gyneclogy and Public Health and General Preventative Medicine. He was raised and educated in New Mexico being in the first graduating class of The University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He did his internship at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, his residency and fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and his Master of Publi Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. The majority of his professional career was spent in academic medicine. He was on the full time medical faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for nine years. He then joined the faculty of Hahneman University/ Medical College of Pennsylvania as the Chairman of Obstetrics & Gyneclogy, a position he held for seven years. After resigning the Chairmanship he stayed on as Professor of Obstetrics & Gyneclogy, Medicine and Preventive Medicine for another 6 years teaching and providing primary care to HIV infected women.
In May 1997 he left the east coast and took the position of Chief Medical Officer for the Montana Department of Publi Health and Human Services. In December 2004 he retired and spent the next year hiking and engaging in outdoor activites. In the spring of 2006 he started volunteering at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center. In March 2007 he took a part time position at the facility as the Medical Liaison for the Division of Quality Management.
Carlos Arce, Director of Leadership and Development at Billings Clinic will speak about effective management techniques
Carlos R. Arce has served as a consultant and coach of organizational and leadership development. With a background in process improvement and education, Carlos has worked with organizations throughout North America. He is an experienced resource in successfully developing and implementing leadership and learning strategies aimed at improving organizational efficiency, and increasing customer and employee satisfaction.
He is currently the Director of Organizational and Leadership Development at Billings Clinic - a non-profit medical foundation based in Billings, Montana. In this role, he has contributed to the national recognition Billings Clinic has received in areas of service, leadership, and quality.
Carlos holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Santa Clara University and a Masters in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has facilitated both undergraduate and graduate courses in management, certificate programs in quality and team problem solving, and has served as an Athletic Head Coach in the NCAA.
A panel made up of local and State officials involved in disaster planning will talk about their experience, and highlight how libraries can become more involved in the process.
Wilda B. Newman of Knowledge Management Resources LLC
Wilda Newman founded Knowledge Associates Resources, LLC, after retiring from the Johns Hopkins University, Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) in 2001. There she developed an interest in Knowledge Management (KM) and did a research fellowship in that field. She teaches graduate courses in KM for major universities, is a consultant in KM, and is active in local, national, and international professional associations. She has a BS in Business Management and Technology, University of Maryland, University College, and an MS in Library and Information Science, Catholic University.
Wilda has written extensively, including a book, book chapters, and more than 40 articles. She has also conducted workshops, given seminars, and conference presentations, nationally and internationally, and reviews pre-publication books and articles.
